We the staff of Garfield, in partnership with the families and the community, are responsible for promoting the growth and development of all children socially, emotionally and academically. Regardless of economic background, race, gender, family history, or past performance, we believe each child is able to achieve individual, maximum potential. Through the use of human, technological, and community resources, we will encourage children to become productive, contributing members of our society.
About The School
Welcome to Garfield Elementary School
Garfield Elementary School was built in 1972. At that time, there were 3 elementary buildings in the district. The buildings housed grades K-6. In 2004, Fairview Elementary closed. MacDonald Elementary and Garfield Elementary then became K-4 buildings. As enrollment continued to decline, MacDonald Elementary School closed in 2006. At that time, Garfield Elementary became a K-3 building for all students throughout the district. In 2012, we added preschool to the building.
We offer free breakfast and lunch to all families, regardless of income. The students are also given a fresh fruit/vegetable snack each afternoon. Through the generosity of the local churches, food bags are given on the weekends to students by grade level on a rotating basis.
During the last ten years, many good things happened. We have maintained 3 sections of students at each grade level and continued to revisit the curriculum so as to ensure we are meeting the needs of all students.
We are rated an “Excellent” school as determined by the Ohio Department of Education. Garfield Elementary has been recognized as a State Superintendent’s School of Promise in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2014. Every teacher is highly qualified and our family/community engagement is continually growing
