Principal's Message

Welcome to Garfield Elementary, a community of learners. Our community is made up of good families, great staff members and terrific students. We are proud to say that we are a “School of Promise.” Our preschool program received a 5 star rating based on Step Up To Quality (SUTQ), guidelines determined by the Ohio Department of Education. This is the highest rating possible. We were also voted 2017 "Columbiana County Assest Building School of the Year."

The school curriculum targets the needs of every child through our new reading program "Super Kids", differentiated instruction and technology. Our philosophy is to prepare the whole child to be a positive, contributing member of the ever-changing world we live in today. . Our staff has committed to help our families by changing their schedules, so as to provide additional help during the school day. Miss Stephanie Pease has joined our staff as a third grade teacher. We welcome her to our Garfield family and community. Plans are still progressing for the development of an outdoor learning center, with hopes that construction will begin this spring.

Our students spend each day in an environment that is safe, filled with high expectations for learning, and know that they are cared about. Garfield elementary ROARS (this is our positive behavior support program whereby our kids learn to be Responsible, Organized, Achieve, Respectful and Safe).

Family and community involvement is welcome and encouraged. Our PTO is very active and volunteers are greatly encouraged to come and work with our students. It takes an entire village to care for our students.

Please feel free to call, stop by the office or e-mail me if you have any questions or concerns. I am grateful to have the opportunity to spend each day with the kids, families and staff.

Mrs. Lisa Ferguson
